Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Pharmaceutical chemistry is a discipline at the intersection of chemistry and pharmacology involved in with design, synthesis and developing drug molecules. Medicinal chemistry involves the identification, synthesis and development of new chemical entities suitable for therapeutic use. It also includes the study of existing drugs, their biological properties, and their quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR). Pharmaceutical chemistry is focused on quality aspects of medicines and aims to assure fitness and efficacy for medicinal products. The department offers a wide area of research in the area of new drug discovery, process and developmental methods, including study of mechanism of drugs and also analytical method development for new drugs. Computer-aided drug design and new biotechnological approaches are opening new avenues in the field of medicinal chemistry.

VISION

To be an outstanding institution of excellence in pursuit of newer horizons to build self-reliant global pharmacist through quality pharmacy education.

MISSION

Our mission is to contribute to the national programme of providing trained Pharmaceutical manpower through structured programmes like B.Pharm, M.Pharm, and Ph. D with Professional education and effective competency to undertake the task of meeting professional and social needs in Pharmaceutical education and research.

OBJECTIVES

  • Academic, administrative and financial autonomy to allow departments to initiate self financing programmes
  • Development of an excellent academic and research network of international standards
  • Designing of curriculum for UG and PG Courses. As per AICTE norms
  • Publication of calendar of events and conduct of classes, examinations and all other activities strictly as per the calendar.
  • Review of academic programmes from time to time.
  • Strengthening of linkages with AICTE, ICMR, PCI and DST for research and extension programmes.
  • Continuing education programmes for teaching and non teaching staff members.
  • Organization of staff development programmes, national and international events
  • Academic auditing and validation of research programmes
  • Strengthening of institution administration to make it transparent, responsive and accountable
  • Encouragement for national & International seminars, workshops, refresher courses for faculty and students
