Department
of Pharmaceutical Chemistry |
|
Pharmaceutical chemistry is a discipline
at the intersection of chemistry and pharmacology
involved in with design, synthesis and
developing drug molecules. Medicinal chemistry
involves the identification, synthesis
and development of new chemical entities
suitable for therapeutic use. It also includes
the study of existing drugs, their biological
properties, and their quantitative structure-activity
relationships (QSAR). Pharmaceutical chemistry
is focused on quality aspects of medicines
and aims to assure fitness and efficacy
for medicinal products. The department
offers a wide area of research in the area
of new drug discovery, process and developmental
methods, including study of mechanism of
drugs and also analytical method development
for new drugs. Computer-aided drug design
and new biotechnological approaches are
opening new avenues in the field of medicinal
chemistry.
